Improving road safety is a primary goal of Piedmont transport and mobility policies and the Regional Government has a strong commitment to achieve the 50% targeted reduction of road fatalities by 2010, as recommended by the European Union and the National Road Safety Plan.

To give a hosting site to all the initiatives addressing road safety issues in its territory, the Piedmont Region has created a web portal.

It is jointly managed by the Centro Regionale di Monitoraggio della Sicurezza Stradale, the regional centre for road safety monitoring and by the Centro Regionale di Formazione della Sicurezza stradale, the regional centre for road safety permanent education.

These centres have been given a primary responsibility in implementing the Regional Road Safety Plan, enacted by the Regional Council on April 16 2007.

Complying with the e-government accessibility requirements all the information produced by the two centres are published in this website. The site is organized into a number of sections covering:

• activities of the monitoring centre (monitoring accident events on Piedmont roads, monitoring regional safety action programmes)

• activities of the centre for education (research activities supporting permanent education on road safety issues)

• documentation about road safety problems and regulations.
