Road accidents by road segment

It is possible to show the data about the last available years (2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008) or about the entire period 1991-2008 referred to rural roads: in such a section is presented municipal data for each rural road segment belonging to national, regional, provincial roads and motorways.

To say it differently, each road segment depicted on the map is computed as follows: each motorway, national, regional and provincial road has been divided in segments, each one defined by the crossing of the road and municipal boundaries. The presented data thus refers to the accidents happened on that rural road inside that municipal area. The procedure allows identifying and localisying about the 70% of all the car accidents happened on rural roads in Piedmont (for details see the description).

For each municipal motorway segment and each municipal segment of national, regional and provincial rural road the following data is available: total number of accidents, fatal accidents, fatalities, injured people, involved vehicles, accidents on motorways, accidents on national/regional roads, accidents happened between 06:30-09:30, accidents happened between 16:30-19:30, accidents with rain/snow, accidents with fog, accidents from monday to friday, accidents on junctions, accidents between vehicles and pedestrians, accidents of single vehicles, killed males, injured males, killed pedestrians, injured pedestrians, killed motorcycle riders, injured motorcycle riders, killed cyclists, injured cyclists, killed age under 25, injured age under 25, killed age over 65, injured age over 65, involved heavy goods vehicles, involved motorcycles over 50cc., involved motorcycles under 50cc.

Road segments which are not reported are those for which original data is not available. Elaborations are made upon data provided by ISTAT.

The loading of the GIS visualisation requires a few seconds depending on the bandwidth of the requester's Internet connection.

Furthermore, it is possible to access a page of instructions related to the usage and web visualisation of the data.
