How to use and visualise data

The time series database is downloadable in .csv format (i.e., comma separated text format) and .xls. The description of fields and the explanation of the elaboration and aggregation per municipality of original ISTAT data are depicted in the file of description.

In the pages presenting the GIS visualisation a Java Applet is loaded in order to allow the geographic visualisation.

In the left part of the window are described the shown layer with the legend of the levels of data, allowing the comprehension of the values to which correspond colours depicted in municipal areas.

With buttons located at the top left it is possible to zoom on particular areas of the region, either exploiting buttons with the symbol of magnifying lens or by the menu presenting the list of provinces.

The menu at the top centre of the windows allows selecting the data to represent on the map.

Finally, selecting the button in the top left corner with the symbol of the arrow it is possible to select the municipal area or the road segment in order to open a further window which presents the entire data set referring to the municipality or to the road segment.

In order to correctly evaluate the data about road segments, it is worth stressing that whenever a road segment bounded by municipal boundaries is composed by more sub segments, in the related table data is referred to the entire segment and not to the sub ones composing it. Thus, data rows which are shown should NOT be summed.
