The Piedmont’s Road Safety Regional Plan
In Piedmont, the Road Safety Regional Plan is part of the Regional Transportation Plan. It contains a raft of measures designed to help achieve casualty reduction targets and improve safety on Piedmont's roads. It also provides a framework of the various measures to be carried out by local governments and the local stakeholders involved in road safety.
The Road Safety Regional Plan received a preliminary assent by the Regional Council on April 3 2006 and was definitively approved on April 16 2007 after the Road Safety Working Party’s consultations. The plan’s deployment is carried out by means of two programmes:
- a financial programme indicating the available regional funds for road safety for a three year period (the Road Safety Programme)
- an operational programme aimed to specify the plan’s measures to be realized each year.
The Road Safety Regional Plan is organized by:
- 1. Action domains which identify the main priority fields concerning road safety, i.e. road infrastructures, human behaviour, car endowments, road management and governance;
- 2. Strategic lines, which specify the plan’s aims and tasks;
- 3. Actions, dealing with the specific types of measures to be implemented in order to achieve road safety targets.
